Stevenator's Page!

First and foremost, I'd would like to compliment Gene on setting up a great website for the IVRC.  A great website can be an invaluable asset to any club, and the more active it becomes, the better tool it becomes for the club to communicate with its members, potential members, and other interested parties!

Gene recently contacted me, and asked me if I would like a page on the site of my own, and I decided to give it a shot.  I'm not sure what I will be putting up here on a regular basis, but I was thinking that I would post up some of my modeling related finds on the internet, perhaps some short articles on soaring, (which is my favorite aspect of the hobby) as well as other random aviation related topics that might come to mind.

Many of you already know me, and some others may not, so I will start with a brief introduction of myself.

My name is Steve Stohr, and I live on the north side of Ottawa, IL.  I started flying back in 1977, under the tutelage of Marvin Doucey at first, and then Howard Halm.  I was an active member of IVRC in the late 70's and early 80's.  During the 80's, and 90's, I was an on again/off again member of the Streator R/C Flyers.  Three years ago, I started getting interested in R/C sailplane flying again, and I joined a SOAR, a Chicago area sailplane and electric club.  I am presently on the board of directors of SOAR.  I also am a member of the League of Silent flight, which is the official soaring SIG representing sailplane flying to the AMA.  I will write a little more about the LSF in a future article.  Presently, I fly on the OVSS circuit as a Sportsman level pilot, and I competed in my second Nationals this year.

Next up....   I will review the Parkzone Radian electric powered sailplane!
